i stumbled across this software a couple months ago and just recently decided to give it a shot. so far... good stuff. im slowly but surely beginning to like this ide. i managed to figure out a lot of the complexities. but the only thing that has me stumped is this...

i have phped on a winxp machine connecting to ms server 2003. i have webdav extensions enabled and configured on the server and a webdav account created in phped. i can connect, get directory and file listings in the explorer, and even create and delete folders without conflict. however, when i try to open a .php to edit, i get this error.

[XML] failed to load xml document.
Error: mismatched tag. Line number: 4, position 96.

i thought of using cvs or svn, but didnt like the sequences required to save, upload, commit, and publish. having been a dreamweaver junkie for a long time, i require the single-sequence uploading features of a server management system.

Looks like your webdav extension does not work well or xml (webdav response) was corrupted on its way to the IDE. For example, it's known that some firewalls snoop into HTTP protocol and may corrupt html and xml contents.

its acting real weird.

i can open .html files no problem. i get a different error when opening a .tpl file. it reads...

Failed to download file "/tpl/mytpl.tpl" to "C:\DOCUME~1\myprojfolder"
HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

but i assure you, the file is there.

also... to fuel the fire... i cannot lock the files i download (obviously only .html files). is this a problem with the webdav extension settings on the server?

im interested in the http snooping that you think my firewalls may be doing. reason being is that when i disable anonymous access at the server, my uname/pwd doesnt work in the phped webdav account; i get an invalid login error.

is there another way to do checkin/checkout? and please do NOT say cvs or svn because that is NOT going to happen.

It's your server reported. IDE only showed you the message from the server. You may want to inspect server logs to see where to problem is.
Most likely, your webdav is not configured properly. Please read related documentation.

but what about the 'failed to load xml document' error?

i can create, edit, move, delete files from the webdav via windows explorer and ie, but i cannot open them via phped. what do i check for? anything off the top of your head i can check for in the firewalls; applicable firewalls are sp2 and linksys gateway?

Are you sure you can edit files from webdav via Windows Explorer?
Regarding 'failed to load' I'd love to check it but it's still unclear what server you're using and how you've set it up.
Did you setup a separated web server for webdav operations? or you're using separated virtual host? or it's just web server you're working with on its 80th port?
