The plans are there but not anytime soon. We expect that the pilot development will start in 2-2.5 months

Yea, I am planning on getting a new laptop in the next 3-6 months and i am going to get a Mac now that windows in supported. I like to do as much work as possible on the max OS and only use Windows when i really need to as the Mac OS is to me much better.

if a Mac version were made I'd probably finally switch away from using Windows altogether. Our entire office only uses Windows because of a very small number of applications, and PhpEd is literally the only programs that our developers must absolutely have and that does not have a good alternative on the Mac.

we have good libraries under Windows. But porting them (with their quality) to a totally different GUI/OS is virtually impossible or at least is a very complicated task, *yet*.

This is GREAT news!!!!! I have been waiting a LONG time to see a Mac version ported over. Zend really needs some competition on this OS.
I would buy this in a heartbeat as soon as you guys port it over. I know the last post above said pilot development would start in about 2-2.5 months (this was in Feb). Has there been any progress at all? Thanks! Keep up the great work!! |

AFAIK PhpED/Windows works perfectly well under Mac + Parallels.

Well, yeah, it does, but that hardly substitutes for a native version. Running PhpED/Windows in a VM on a Mac is like speed-limiting a Ferrari to 35 kph on the autobahn - it gets you to your destination alright, but fails to even remotely realize the potential of the combination. There are a ton of features in Mac OS that could make PhpED/Mac far superior to the Windows version, but you get none of that, well, running the Windows version!
So does this mean there's not going to be a Mac version after all? I sincerely hope not. PhpED is a wonderful tool that I tout all the time--yes, I know I'm a little harsh in here, but that's only because I like the product so much--but if it will never make it to Mac, I'll probably be rethinking my stance toward it when it comes to some of my future purchases and to recommendations. I and my fellow Mac users really want native tools. BTW, I'd be careful telling Mac users that VM support equates to platform support. I'm not too sensitive, but many Mac users consider such a statement to be worthy of a hanging.... |
