Use i386 or i686 version of debugger?

Still unsure whether to use the i386 or i686 version of the debugger.
"HOWTO: Install DBG module" explains that i686 is for PentiumPro, but as far as I know this is a very old architecture that was somewhat out of the development line of the other Pentium processors.
Nevertheless I suppose I can use i686 for my Pentium 4 ?!?

686 is optimized for Pentium Pro. Neither PIII nor PIV offer any significant changes in the instruction set so the binary is still well-optimized for them. Also, it is important to understand that non-Intel CPUs may fail to run or run the optmized code differently. That's why we offer non-optmized version (386) too.
