It would be nice if the editor could use the de facto standard for selection.
  • double-click always selects the current word
  • Triple click always selects the current line
  • Double click drag extends the selection by words only
  • Triple click drag extends the selection by lines only

Makes sense to me. However, double click does select the whole current word now - doesn't it?

it actually depends on the editor settings: [v] Double click line and [v] Extended select

Also, single-click drag starts where you originally clicked (even halfway through a word) and be extended by individual characters, unlike now where acts like the double-click drag described above. (And single-click w/o drag simply places the text cursor at that point, but that is probably superfluous information.)

And the quadrupal-click deselects all that was selected by the triple-click but otherwise acts like single-click. Then repeating in that pattern

1 single-click
2 double-click
3 triple-click
4 single-click (w/ deselect of triple-click)
5 double-click
6 triple-click
7 single-click (w/ deselect of triple-click)
etc.

what's about quadrapole clicks? let's get our fingers well-trained on them too.
