Hi

I am trying to test the remote debugging features on the eval version of phped but keep getting the error:

Failed to start debug session.
Please verify if debugger module is installed on the server that corresponds to "<server_address>/index.php" URL.

I am running the client on winxp pro and the webserver is locate on a fedora 5 box running apache 2 and php 5.1.4.

I have followed the instructions found on this forum but they never seem to work.

phpinfo() returns the following output which seems to indicate that dbg is working fine:

Hi Dave, could you please post your project settings (screenshots if possible or just more details) and tell us what are you trying to do - I mean do you open a local script mapped to remote file for debugging or are you using debugger toolbar on IE to start the session - or anything else?

Just tried reinstalling the eval and all seems to be working fine now - must have put a flaky setting somewhere last time!

eAccelerator
^^^^^ can affect your ability to debug php scripts with any php debugger, including dbg.

So would that explain why I am now getting very odd debugging behaviour:

1. When stepping through code the debugger jumps to odd positions in each function missing some lines of code.
2. When running the following code:

function att_nodeapi(&$node, $op, $teaser, $page) {
switch ($op) {
case 'view':
if (!$teaser) {
_check_if_guide_page(&$node);
}
break;
}
}

if I hover over $teaser it is FALSE but the debugger jumps straight to the break line without running the _check_if_guide_page() function!

3. In the IDE log window the debugger seems to be constantly stopping and starting?

Oh, common, debugger does never affect the way php executes the scripts. In other words, if it jumps to that line, it's PHP jumps, not debugger. Debugger only shows where php jumped. Isn't it what debuggers are for?

Although I'm not sure what you meant by "odd" positions.

Regarding starting/stopping - no. It does not stop the debugger. Debugger stops itself when script is over and runs if you run it or if it gets session continuation. If you meant dbglistener, it does not start/stop at all, at least it does not do it "constantly".

Ok, I have tracked down the problem. Although the file transfer messages say that the transfer was uploaded fine when I upload a file, it never actually reaches the server?

The code jumps look to be caused by the debugger showing the line on the server being run which no longer corresponds to the one on my client...

Ok, cracked it, had the root of my website in both the ftp account config and the project config so it duplicting the root path on upload...

On the other hand, --dave-- faced up with quite a different problem. He got local and remote files de-synchronized.

No, I don't think so. Most probably, you did not setup it correctly and files were uploaded into a different directory.
Could you please post screenshot of Account settings and first tab of the project settings? or simply publishing root directory in the project settings and root directory in the account settings.

You were right - it was my settings and they are all fixed now.

I have now hit another problem though!

When I start a debugging session it always stops at the first line of my index page as follows:

require_once './includes/bootstrap.inc';

it then stops everytime it hits this line even though there is no breakpoint set. I would prefer to simply run until it hits my first break point to save me hitting continue all the time.

Is this behavious by design or can I change it?

Do you by any chance have "Stop on the First Line after Run" turned on in Tools->Settings->Tools->Debugger?
