why do you think 8MB is small?
Please check cache hit/miss ratio shown in the phpexpress() output after 24h of running.

After about 24 hours 99.25% hit ratio.

The only way I got a substantial performance increase out of eAccelerator was to have size about 32MB. If my numbers are good up there PHPExpress does things MUCH better in memory with the same performance increase for me. Leigh

if you get hit ratio more than 90%, phpexpress does its job good and allocated memory is sufficient. BTW, it uses very efficient algorithms and replaces cache fast enough so even on the development server you get 70-80%, which is rather good I think that the less memory is used by an application, the more memory is available for the OS to cache filesystem and therefore it runs faster.
