Ignore .git folder

When opening my projects, the .git folder of the project gets scanned which might take some time. Is there a way to have the editor not scan it, just to save that time? As a side effect it would also not show in my Workspace, which would be nice, because it's irrelevant for me.

do you run phped 5.9 or a newer version?
starting with 6.2, phped ignores .git directories by default.
with an earlier version you have to add .git to the list of directories to be ignored/hidden.

Did not turn on notifications, so I see your reply just now.

I'm running 6.1 and the .git folder is visible. It's a project that was started under 5.9 though. Do I need to reinitialize?
