HELP !!! Weird dbg issue between 2 machines

Ok, I have a normal ubuntu server (call it rsl), and a virtual machine ubuntu server (call it vm)
Both have same php.ini, same dbg module, same setup etc etc.
I have 2 projects, one for rsl, and one for vm. Same settings, just different mapped network drives.
Start dbg on rsl, goes into app fine, submit form, and dbg stops (as is right and proper) on 1st line of next program in chain. Lovely.
Do same thing on VM, and debugger DOES NOT stop on next program in chain (either with form submit, or called programs. Once you click on run in debugger, it's like you've clicked RUN.
I've checked and compared everything I can think of. Any ideas ?

David

you may want to compare phpinfo pages side by side.

Done that.
Also done binary compare on dbg.so.5.2.x, compared php.ini's, compared project settings - really tried everything I can think of.
Would it help to post both phpinfo's up ? I can do that easily. It's a real pain not being able to debug on this new machine, especially as I'm tweaking software for an important demo thurday ! (Doesn't it always work out that way ?)

David.
