I'm wondering if it is possible to advance the "default file to run" feature in the project properties to enable "mod_rewrite" paths. So instead of a file, an URL will be called to initiate the debug session. I know, there are a few tricks to get around this, like starting session inside the browser or start it by file and update the environment variables.. but I think maybe others would like to see this startup possibility as well.

if you rewrite your URLs with mod_rewrite, mapping will not work. It expects filenames and relative directories to match ending part of the URLs. I'd recommend you to use direct URLs for vhost you're debugging on.
