CVS request for every file in my workspace

I am new to cvs, so maybe that will explain my difficulties. I tried to do an update on a folder with over a 1000 files. CVS pops up a window for every file. I would record here what the error message, but for some reason I am not able to reproduce the problem. But it would be nice to be able to just click yes to all or ok to all or something to that effect instead of clicking ok for every single file.

if you update a directory, cvs would process it at once. I'm not sure if that's not the case and what to do with this. Please consult with cvs manual.

If it makes a difference, when I say "CVS pops up a window", I mean that phped does that when interfacing with CVS. I am sure that CVS has their rules but in this instance I don't see how their rules govern the way you interface with them.

feel free to update with details if you find a way on how to replicate the problem.
