Build 7041 not reloading modified files with Dreamweaver

Any help on this would be gratefully received.

From build 7041 (or after 7023) phped does not reload modified files when modified with Dreamweaver, cs5, cs5.5 or cs6, but does with notepad.

Both ‘Check for externally modified files’ and ‘auto reload modified files’ are checked.

To reproduce; with any given php file open in both Php ed and DW, make a simple change in DW and save, switch to phped and the file does not reload.

The only way to see the changes is to close the file and re-open.

The last build where this feature worked is 7023.

Nothing changed as far as my system is concerned other than a phped upgrade after 7023.

I’ve reinstalled on a newly formatted drive, and tried on a Dell i5 laptop with the problem still there.

I’ve reported this to Nusphere support but they are not being helpful at this stage, they say that they won’t look at this until the next release and quote…

“If after the release we find time and resources, we'll look into it more.”

This is a major issue for me and am stuck using build 7023.

For what I call an exceptional product, their support has been poor in this case.

Something I’m taking up with them.

TIA Alan

Hi Alan..

I can tell you this is fixed in the next minor version (not sure if there'll be any more patch releases to 7.0). I don't have an ETA on this however. I reported this issue as the same happened when reverting files with the likes of SVN / Git too and it was resolved within days.. even given the vague data I could give showing file changes.

As for their support, personally I think it's pretty good. I've reported a lot of issues over the past 4 years (most minor nuances rather than major blockers) and every one of them was handled within a satisfactory (AFAIC) time, IMO.. in fact, for one issue I reported, they even sent me multiple custom builds to try and work out a graphical glitch I (and apparently (almost) only I) was experiencing. My guess for the "unhelpfulness" probably means they believe the issue is fixed (although obviously my report is slightly different to yours in regards to software used causing problems) and that Dmitri has already stated that the next release is due "soon".. and if it isn't for your specific situation, they'll look into it then.. but give them a chance to see if the next version fixes it first. Sometimes I think there's a slight language issue.. at least phrase-wise where things don't come across quite as "smoothly" as it was intended.

Just FWIW.. I don't work for NuSphere.. my comments are purely as a happy, long-term customer.

Cheers..

Ian

I have also had good response from support. I had an issue a few months back with PhpED often crashing (GUI issue, not sure if the same as Ian's), got custom builds from Dmitri, and subsequently the issue was fixed.

It's often worth installing the latest before reporting an issue. NuSphere release new versions as they fix issues. Just ensure you keep maybe a few previous releases saved before trying a new one, so you can go back a version if required.

Some developers (eg Microsoft) wait for a lot of fixes to build up then release a big patch, so you can wait months for fixes.

The problem I originally posted has now been resolved by support.

I've used PhpEd for around 4 years, and have always had good things to say and still have.

Maybe 1 glitch in 4 years is pretty good.

Anyway, matter is closed and faith has been restored.
