I would like to be able to indicate that I want to search or find-and-replace within the scope of the current function.

you can start find/find-replace from the point where the function begins, and proceed until Code Navigator indicatates that you left the function.

Yes, but then I first have to make sure that 'track current location' is enabled in code navigator. I also have to look at a different section of the screen. Why not add 'current function' to the scope section of the find/replace dialog? That shouldn't be too difficult I guess. Another reason is that this enables the 'replace all' feature if I want to let's say change a variable name in the current function. I can't use it now because it's going to replace all instances in the whole file so I have to replace by keep pressing F3 and trying to avoid replacing this same variable name in another function. This is teadious and frustrating because other IDEs do allow this.

Apart from this I'm very impressed with phpED!
