Using block mark and delete?

I am sure this used to work in version 5, but in 6 it doesn't. I have to right-mouse and click cut.

Looks like you turned off Overwrite Blocks in Tools->Settings->Editor Settings

We didn't change the editor functionality in this regard and the option is ON by default since the beginning, so...

I had no recollection of doing so, but I checked anyway and the setting is checked, so it can't be that.

Then you probably checked Persistent Blocks. Try [Reset] button below the editor settings

I clicked reset and the only change was that it added "Extended select". After this, I tried again marking a rectangle area in the editor a clicking delete. I still didn't delete.
