Hi
I've just set up phpED for the first time

As it may help here is my setup:

I have one Windows PC on my LAN running a backup 'snapshot' copy of my live site which I use for debugging and development purposes. The site is a very customised vbulletin based site. The PC runs an apache/php/sql server and the local copy of the site works OK for my purposes

I was previously using Dreamweaver but want to use phpED due to it's advanced debug facilities

I've got phpED running on another PC, and synchronised a new project with the backup site across the LAN (all the site files are on the apache server machine), I managed to get dbg installed server side and that all tests OK.

So I think I have set it all up right - but I'm not a professional programmer and pretty new to some of this so I could have messed up already LOL

When I try top open php files from my backup site I get this error "File Contains some symbols that can not be represented in 'UTF-8' character set..... and my options are select another encoding or proceed with transliteration by clicking the Transliterate button. The first character it has picked up on is a copyright symbol. There are loads of option in the 'Encoding' Drop down box - how am I to determine which one i should use, and does it matter?

The same files open in Dreamweaver without problems

TIA
dicky

Oh OK Latin1 worked and opened the file without the error message I chose that as I remembered that my SQL config had latin1 in it somewhere. But is that right or just a 'lucky guess' or does it not really matter as long as the php file opens in the browser OK
