Problem with web serv requiring a restart of PhpEd

The web server is freezing. I'm having to close down/restart PhpEd every third time I use the web server to view a page I have edited. .

This problem has occurred on PhpED v4.6, 5.00, 5.01, on two different machines (both WinXP+SP2). The second machine was a fresh installation of Windows.

Here's how to recreate the problem:

1. Start PhpEd.
2. Hit the green "Play" button to display a page in IE or Firefox.
3. Edit the original index.htm page with a different application (Dreamweaver).
4. Hit "F5" to refresh in IE.
5. Repeat this process 2 or 3 times.
6. The local web server crashes, the page freezes in IE.
7. I have to close down PhpED, end the servers, restart to get the page loading again.

It only seems to happen if I do things very fast, ie: hit "Save" in Dreamweaver, then instantly hit "Alt-Tab" to switch to IE, then instantly hit "Ctrl-F5" to refresh. Another way to trigger it is to click on a link, then quickly hit the "Back" button.

Any ideas?

Is there any indication on what process dll or exe caused the crash? Does Windows offer to "send" any info to the Microsoft? If so, does coressponding dialog contain the info details that you could submit there?

PhpED just freezes, there is no debug information.

Either FireFox or IE just sits there, forever, frozen. The only way to get out of it is to close down PhpED, kill the webserver programs, and restart.

So there is no crashes at all.
Did you try with external browser or with embedded one?

I always test with the external server, either IE or Firefox.

I've managed to narrow it down. It always happens with PHP v5, but never with PHP v4.

With PHP v5, it locks up randomly with any URL. The problem is independent of the URL.

With PHP v5, we're using the internal PHP server supplied with NuSphere.

The I'd recommend you to try to comment out extensions one by one to see which one causes the lock up.
Alternatively, you may want to switch to Apache to see if PHP v5 module handles requests any better than its CGI version that SRV (the internal server) runs.

How would I install Apache as a server?

There are many Apache distributions in the Net. Try out XAMPP or any other that come with php. You'll need to install php debugger module of course and adjust project properties accordingly.
