global and class objects

is there any why to let the editor now what type of variable a global is so that if it is an object when i go:

object->

it will give me the methods and members?

i thought it would because it not like i can have 2 variables named the same thing so i though if it was declare a object when i created it, when i make it global in a function it would now that. am i wrong in this thought?
