Debugger without IDE?

I just want a debugger. I want to debug my PHP Scripts. I don't want to switch to an IDE. This looks like it's just a server and you're expected to use an IDE with it. Is there no simple debugger that works with it? I have to use an IDE?

It seems odd to me that the only clients for the debugger server are gui IDEs. How do you test it without a simple text interface?

Having IDE is not as odd as you imagine Smile

On the other hand, console version of the debugger was developed in 2001 and is available since that. Have a look at Source Forge site, project dbg2, version 2.10rc2 and 3.

Sounds pretty interesting, although already using an ide.
BUT: how can I get this console version? in sourceforge, there are only msi-packages available for the 2.10 series.
Do I have to run this installer? If I do, what will happen with my installed newer version of DBG?
(ooh, I hate these black-box installers when You want to know what really happens under the hood)
