Php version installed from debs (php5, php5-dev, php5-cli):
PHP 5.0.5-3 (cli) (built: Oct 20 2005 17:52:24)
Copyright (c) 1997-2004 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.0.5, Copyright (c) 1998-2004 Zend Technologies
Then compiling is simply a matter of running the following command from within the directory where the source is unpacled:
phpize=/usr/bin/phpize CC=/usr/bin/gcc-3.3 ./deferphpize
(The complie errors about invalid lvalue etc are a problem with gcc4, so you have to force the make to use gcc3 - any version will do, look in /usr/bin/gcc* for which versions you have installed)
Then i followed the rest of the steps in the INSTALL file, which for me were was follows (which must be done as root or with sudo - if you donyt know what sudo is, just log in as root):
cp ~/dbg-2.11.32/modules/dbg.so /usr/lib/php5/20041030
Then you need to edit the config files - most liket the apache one my editor of choice is vim, but you can obviously use any editor:
vim /etc/php5/apache/php.ini
Then for good measure i restarted Apache via:
/etc/init.d/apache restart
(Reason for the post is that I initallal had problems, and it seems that a few other ppl have as well)
