Daniel, you're right! I was amazed to experience this feature, too! I must have overseen it when installing 5.5 (and I DID read the changes *hum*).
But, a cheat sheet and/or changelog in the manual ...

This is a very "personal" feature. Many of us are used to work in different manners... i.e. I am addicted to the "double-click on tab" like in UltraEdit and am missing it in PhpEd ...
