mysql_pconnect undefined *solved*

I am relatively new to php/mysql/apache, etc., so please pardon me if the answer to my question is somewhere on the internet and I just haven't been able to find it.

I began developing with the eval version of 3.3.3 and everything was working fine.

Once I purchased the 4.0 version and installed it, I now receive the following message:
E_ERROR - Call to undefined function mysql_pconnect() at index.php line 31

This worked before I installed the new version. I installed 4.0 with PHP 5, which is what I was using under 3.3.3.

Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks.

you may want to uncomment the following line in your php.ini file to get php_mysql extension loaded with all its functions:

;extension=php_mysql.dll
