what is the point in auto closing tags when writing a tag?

well, ok I can see the point when coding from scratch
but what good is it when you type a tag at the start of some text and it auto creates the end tag and you have to either delete or drag the end tag to the end of your text.

Now I can live with the incredible annoyance of the auto quotes (WHICH NEVER LET YOU TYPE A SINGLE SET OF DOUBLEQUOTES, EVER, UNLESS ITS TOTALLY DISABLED) because at least with that function I can highlight a string and encapsulate it in the quotes

but if you highlight a string and attempt to type a tag it deletes your string, so the auto tag feature is completely useless for editing and pretty annoying to use at all as a result

am I missing something here?
Am I the only one who thinks some of the "lazy features" are more annoying than the work they try and eliminate?

If you don't like the auto-closing of tags, why don't you just turn it off? Wink

Code Insight > Code Complete > HTML > Trigger auto close = Never

You can even set specific tags to close.
