pressing F2 renames a file... anywhere in the IDE?

It doesn't make sense to me that pressing F2 while in the code editor window should activate the "Workspace" pane and selected the text of a filename ready for renaming. If there are other such cross-IDE keyboard shortcuts, I believe they shouldn't really be there either... It would free up these common keys for other more contextually-useful shortcuts.

I believe this is the reason that confusing shortcuts exist in the IDE because of the above: the more logical alternative is already assigned to something else. In this particular case, I don't know what else you might use F2 for, but I do know that there is no correlation between F2 (file rename) and SHIFT-F2 (find matching brace) which makes it harder to remember either.

Side note: kudos on that file-rename on an open file renames in the editor as well. Smile

keep up the good work.. wonderful debugger

If you don't like what the shortcuts do, or they don't fit with your way of working, you can change them:
